so demonegg and I were talking last night and I think we've coined a new phrase.

Writer's Blah

I think you writers get the idea already.  It's not the dreaded writer's block - it's the blah where you could write... if only you could get motivated.  It's the doldrums of high seas sailing - er, writing.  The course is set, the sails are loosed, everyone's ready to go (a rare treat considering cantankerous characters), and yet - nothing.

I'll be the first to raise my hand and admit that mine comes in cycles.  Without fail it seems to hit me halfway through a story.  I start with a bang, turn out chapters a day, slow down to a comfortable groove after a bit and settle into a rhythm, and then - one day - I just don't feel like writing.  So I don't.  And one day turns into a week.  And a week turns into a month...  Without fail it seems I go about a month, a month and a half in which I write absolutely nothing with spurts into the occasional 'not applicable at all'.

and of course, I always panic somewhere into the second or third week.  I spent a good ten years of my life not being able to finish a story to save my soul and even though I've got several under my belt now, the old fear still hits.

why am I rambling along pointlessly?  'Cause, and it's just a suspicion, I've got a feeling I'm not the only one that's been hit with the Writer's Blah at the moment.  Personally, I'm going to blame it on the weather and the end of the year/beginning of the year stress. ;)

I know how you feel orzz Only mine now is a writer's block as oppose to just plain blaah. I have the urge to write--I have my ideas and outlines and whatnot, but when it comes down to it I can't produce anything I am satisfied with... or even produce any writing material at all ;__;

I am blaming it on school. Cuz school saps all away my energy /sigh

I am sooooo with ya on the 'writer's blah'.

And I'm suffering from it now.

**sigh**

I'm with you on this. Sometimes it's even more hateful than writer's block. I think I have writer's blah at the moment. T.T

I go through a phase where all I want to do is read, but I don't know what that would be called. And honestly, there's a real shortage of good stories out there(not that I think mine are the best either). I have a TsengCissnei prompt still pending and I've rewritten it twice and I just can't seem to get it how I want it, so yes, I share the writer's blah pain! The idea is just out of reach, but the lightbulb refuses to turn on. :(

So I thought about it, and I think we still need three things.

1. To sell this word to either Merriam or Webster.
2. Find a reliable any weather, any season scapegoat. (I'm willing to blame jerkface!Cloud, the i-net, or the lunar cycle)
3. Find a cure-all for this. (Or at least a Schoolhouse Rock song about it that'll help pass the time.)

Seriously for #3. It's bleeding over into other areas of my life.

Also, random. I get several word-of-the-day emails from various sources. One of the words was doldrums. Coincidence? Probably not. :)

school, work, the weather, pesky family - I think ALL are good excuses. Any and all in fact - lol. There's just those moments when the muse WILL NOT cooperate no matter how much you beg.

the price we pay for it, I suppose ;)

I swear - it's going around or something! don't worry, we can share hot cocoa and cookies and commiserate about pesky characters until one of us gets something :)

you're right! It IS worse than writer's block because you could write... if only you could find the motivation - lol. At least it's only temporary. I think I need some sunshine to get me going again.

back when I was in college I'd spend a good chunk of time writing and then switch over to drawing. Back and forth and back and forth but never together at the same time. Maybe its a way of recharging our batteries or something - lol. And *I* think your stories are great! there just aren't enough of them (*cough* for any of us *shifty eyes*)lol.

Tseng and Cissnei sounds interesting though.

urban dictionary here we come!

and yeah, we can blame Cloud. He's got strong enough shoulders and we'll make it up to him once we start writing again ;)

and I think schoolhouse rock should bleed over into other areas of our lives. I could use some catch song to explain to my guests at the hotel why it's taking so long to check them in. 'In-ter-net sloooooow!down!'

and obvious great minds are thinking alike again - or insanity is still running in packs.

I want mashed potatoes
